Violence broke yesterday at Atebubu Amantin district of the Brong-Ahafo Region between supporters of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Sampon Kofi Boateng, and someone who claims to have been nominated by the President for the post.
The trouble started when the supposed new DCE, Eric Owusu attempted to get Mr. Boateng to hand over his official vehicle to him.
But Mr. Boateng refused to do so, insisting that he had not received any such communication from the President and therefore he is still at post.
The supporters of the two men, clashed, leading to the burning of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency office in the area.
The official vehicle of the DCE was smashed by the supporters of the new DCE, while his driver was injured and is currently receiving treatment at the Atebubu Amantin hospital.
Confirming the issue to The Ghanaian Times, the Regional Crime Officer, Supt Maama Arhin, said two suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the disturbances.
Although reports indicated that an officer of the Ghana National Fire Service was shot, the crime Officer could not confirm at.
Meanwhile, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Security Council has dispatched a team of Military/Police Personnel to the area, to forestall any further disturbances.
