Veep For ACP Summit

Vice-President-Kwesi-Amissah-ArthurThe Vice-President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, left Accra yesterday, for Cotonou, the capital Benin, to attend the West Africa Regional Consultations of the Eminent Persons Group of the African-Carribean and Pacific  (ACP) Group .

The conference which starts on June 15, 2014 and ends on June 17, 2014, will discuss measures towards dealing with poverty and deprivation of member countries in the light of emerging global economic challenges.

A statement from the Vice President’s Office said, the Vice President was accompanied by of government officials, including Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry, Alban Sumani Bagbin, a former Minister of Health, and a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni.

The terms of reference of the Eminent Persons Group of the (ACP) among others is  to critically assess the outcomes of the Ambassadorial  Working Group on the future perspective  of the ACP Group, according to the statement.

In addition, the Group is to take stock of the ACP’s 38 years of existence, based on identified achievements and shortcomings so as to undertake remedial measures.

The statement said the meeting it would assess current ACP co-operation as well as proposed improvements to strategies among others towards achieving the Vision of the ACP.

The meeting is expected to come out with a communiqué on pertinent economic and social issues impacting on member countries.
