U/W Region Outdoors Strategic Health Plan

A five-year strategic plan aimed at promoting excellence in healthcare delivery in the Upper West Region has been outdoored by the Regional Director of  Health Service, Dr. Abudulai Adams Forgor.

The 26-paged document, which was outdoored at the weekend, focuses on measures to improve staff training and discipline, improving maternal and child health and technology in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Forgor said it was necessary to stop misbehaviour on the part of some health personnel towards patients.

He said the health service would organise workshops to remind health professionals of the need to uphold their professional ethics.

“They must come to terms with the fact that they are being paid to attend to clients and without the clients, they cannot practice their profession; they are your clients and not your subjects,” Dr. Forgo said.

Mr Forgor also said that as part of measures to improve maternal and child health, the service would ensure the setting up of neo-natal care units at all health facilities across the region, including Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

Dr. Forgor urged the staff of the service to contribute towards improving healthcare delivery in the region.

“The neonatal care centres are very necessary in providing after-birth services to new born babies right from day one till they are 28-days-old,” he explained.
