UPS Introduces Online Teaching Model

1The University of Professional Studies (UPS), has introduced an online teaching platform to enhance effective teaching and learning in the university.

The model would serve as an additional learning tool for students to enable them understand their courses.

Prof. Joshua Alabi, Vice Chancellor of the university disclosed this at the 2013/2014 matriculation ceremony of the university held in Accra on Friday.

He said due to admission challenges, the university could only admit 4,114 students out of the 10,000 people, who applied this year.

He stated that 8,000 out of the applicants qualified, but due to the limited facilities at the university some could not be admitted.

He explained that the two batches of Senior High School students, thus the three-year group and the four-year group, who took the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) last year also contributed to the factor.

Giving the statistics of the admitted students, he said   1,398 people were offered undergraduate programs, 174 others for Diploma programs, four for professional programs and 109 for Masters. Prof. Alabi urged the students to exhibit good character to excel in their academic work.   - By Collins Boateng
