University Of Ghana Honours Two

University-of-ghanaThe University of Ghana, Legon has named two buildings after Professor Daniel Adzei Bekoe, a former Vice Chancellor of the University and Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Emeritus Professor Robert Domingo Baeta, a former Head of the Department of Physics  at two separate ceremonies.

The central science laboratory was named Daniel Adzei Bokoe Building, while the physics laboratory was named Professor R.D Baeta Physics Laboratory.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Daniel K. Asiedu, Dean of Faculty of Science said, due to Prof. Adzei Bekoe’s contribution and continuous interest in the affairs of the faculty, they deemed it appropriate to properly honour him.

Mr. Asiedu disclosed that, Prof Baeta was the driving force behind the Staff Housing Ownership Scheme of the University of Ghana and also arranged for allocation of 100 plots of land to the scheme.

Prof. Aryeetey, Vice chancellor of the university, said Prof. Adzei Bokoe was chosen because of the eminent role he played in the progress of the university.

He added that although Prof. Adzei Bekoe was vice chancellor of the university, during difficult times he was able to hold the university together.

Prof.  Aryeetey applauded Prof. Baeta for playing a significant role in preserving the culture and value of the university.
He described Prof. Baeta as somebody who stood at preserving and promoting the truth and protected the university from adventurism.

Prof. Adzei Bekoe on his part, thanked heads of the university and all involved for honouring him and recognising his contribution to the university.

Prof. Baeta also expressed gratitude, adding that all he did during his term of service was done in the spirit of making the university better. - Ernestina  Boateng and Paul Adjei
