Unemployed Sentenced 7 Years For Stealing

Handcuffed SuspectA 19-YEAR-OLD unemployed, Frank Antwi has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Sunyani circuit court for stealing a television set and other personal effects belonging to Hannah Nii Baah, a resident of Baakoniaba, a suburb of Sunyani.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing and was convicted accordingly, by the court.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu told the court, presided over by Mr. John Ekow Mensah that on November 11, 2013, the accused entered the complainant’s room at Baakoniaba, a suburb of Sunyani to steal her belongings amounting to GH¢1,720 whilst she was attending to ‘nature’s call’ at a nearby house.

Chief Inspector Fosu said when the complainant returned, she realised that her room had been ransacked whilst her seven-year-old sister was asleep.

He explained that the complainant later saw the accused coming from a nearby bush with torchlight and confronted him.
The prosecutor said the accused became infuriated and assaulted the complainant. He said the complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested.

Chief Inspector Fosu said the accused room was searched and a television set, fan and other items were retrieved.
