An 18-YEAR-OLD medical student at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, who endured multiple knife wounds from a man, who attempted to rape her, before fleeing naked from him is responding to treatment at the Volta Regional Hospital.

The first year student was said to be seeing a male friend off from the UHAS Hostel, near the Cured Lepers Village, towards the regional hospital at about 11pm last week Sunday, when the man wielding a knife confronted them and first slashed the young man in the face.

The assailant then ordered the young woman to follow him, but she refused.

The assailant slashed her repeatedly on her elbow, face and other parts of the body, before dragging her to a nearby refuse dump and ordered her to strip off for him to have sex with her.

The student, who was in agony and bleeding finally pretended to be obeying the knifeman’s order and took off her clothes.

But in a twinkle of an eye, she took to her heels back to the hostel’s security gate where she was given clothes by the security man.

Meanwhile, her injured male friend had been sent an SOS message to the police patrol team, who turned up at scene, but were unable to trace the assailant.

The father of the victim told The Ghanaian Times yesterday that she was recovering fast while her male friend had been discharged.

A spokesman of the Ho Municipal Police confirmed the story, and said that a search had been mounted for the assailant.

There had been reports of cutlass-wielding gang of rapists on UHAS students for some time now.

In one instance, almost two years ago, three men carrying cutlasses attacked a student and succeeded in gang-raping her, after scaring off her male class-mate in the same area where the Sunday incident took place.
