UDS Student Murdered At Bawku

AN assailant last Tuesday opened  fired on a group of people of Sagabo, a suburb of Bawku, in the Upper East Region, killed one person and injured another.

The dead was identified by the police as Mirtala Dinko, 26, student of Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) and the injured, Emmanuel Awoonab, 26, student of Bawku Nursing Training College.

Dinko, was shot in the right side of the chest and died at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital where he was rushed to.

Awoonab, was shot in the left arm, and is on admission at the same hospital in a critical condition.

So far, no arrest has been made but the Bawku Police have intensified their investigations to unravel the reason behind the attack.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times at Bawku onWednesday, Chief Superintendent Testutor Lovelace, the Bawku Divisional Commander, said at about 8:15pm, the assailant opened fire on a group of students at Sagabo, killing Dinko and injuring Awoonab, while the rest fled.

According to him, the incident was not connected with the recent ethnic conflict in Bawku, since there has been calm in recent times.

It would be recalled that last Monday, two unidentified gunmen wielding AK47 assault rifles, fired at four people at Patelmi, another suburb in Bawku, and killed two and injured  two others, who are said to be responding to treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian hospital.
