Dr. Yaw Kumey, Founder and Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has pledged massive transformation of the nation’s agriculture if given the mandate to govern.
He said there would be huge investment in the sector to boost crop production and returns.
In an interview in Koforidua recently, he said his administration would modernise agriculture and construct irrigation facilities to allow for all-year-round production and provide farmers with vital equipment and improved planting materials.
Dr. Kumey said they would additionally be supported with extension services.
He indicated that government institutions including schools were also going to be encouraged into commercial farming.
This way, there would be significant increase in food production levels to assure the country of food security.
He said Ghana was going to put to optimal use the vast arable land it had been blessed with to feed itself and for export to bring in foreign exchange.
He also spoke of plans to give affordable housing to the population.
