An ultra-modern Sports Complex has been inaugurated at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as part of the university’s efforts to improve its sporting infrastructure and activities.
The complex, started three years ago with a loan from the Prudential Bank Limited, is the first phase of a bigger sports project ongoing on the campus.
It has a multipurpose hall for indoor games including table tennis, badminton and basketball, a weight room and offices for the sports section of the university.
It would also be made available to organisations for a fee.
The second phase, progressing steadily and expected to be completed by the end of year, would see the construction of stands for UCC’s mini stadium, among other facilities.
The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Domwini Kuupole charged the sports committee to maintain the complex to enable the university generate enough funds to pay back the loan.
He commended the committee, the Prudential Bank and others stakeholders for their support and commitment and urged other corporate bodies to help UCC complete the project.
