UBA Launches Product For Women

Mrs. Abiola-BawuahThe United Bank for Africa (UBA), in its bid to reach all segments of society with financial services, has launched a new product targeted at women.

The product dubbed — Ruby Current Account — which comes in two categories — classic and premium, is specially designed and targeted at the bankable women within the mass affluent and high net worth individual segment of the population.

The product had been developed in partnership with companies such as Alliance Motors — distributors of Jaguar and Range Rover;  ranges of products, Nokia, Westafco Ghana Limited, Airport Women’s Hospital, Stallion Motors and Casa Trasacco, among others.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Managing Director of UBA, Mrs Abiola Bawuah said, the objective of the product was to encourage women to cultivate the habit of savings and shore up the capital of the bank.

“UBA expects to rise about GH¢200 million through the Ruby Current Account,’’ she said, adding that with a minimum balance of GH¢5000 for premium and GH¢2000 for classic, women could sign on to the account.

She said the product was opened to both the citizens and non-citizens and was meant to inspire women and to bring them together so that they could share business ideas and discuss issues critical for their career advancement.

“Women who signed on to the product would be issued with a card which they can use for shopping,’’ she said.

Apart from the competitive interest rate on the product, Mrs Bawuah said customers who signed on to the product would be given discounts on purchases they made at any of the partner companies.

“Patrons of the Ruby Current Account will also enjoy health and medical services at a discount rate with the UBA partner hospitals and SPA’s,’’ she said.

The Managing Director encouraged men to open the Ruby Current Account for their wives and daughters.

Mrs. Bawuah encouraged women to take advantage of the products to increase and diversify their investment portfolios.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie who witnessed the launch said, she was excited at the Ruby Current Account.

She said the product would provide opportunity for women who excelled in their fields of endeavour to mentor  young ladies and teach them strategies to also succeed.

Ms. Gomashie said the time when women depended on men for their needs were gone and stressed women should be supported to lead independent lives.

The deputy minister encouraged women to avoid unnecessary spending and cultivate the habit of savings to make them financially independent.
