Two persons are in police grips for allegedly robbing a shop attendant of GH¢6,171.00. in Accra.
Elvis Omane, 33 and Daniel Osei, 28, both carpenters were said to have attacked a telecommunication outlet at Anomato in Teshie, Accra.
Briefing the media, Teshie District Police Commander Superintendent Mr. Peter Yembilla, said on February 6, 2017, at about 1:30 pm, the suspects on a motorbike armed with a locally manufactured pistol and a machete robbed the shop attendant of her daily sales, recharge cards and some other valuables at gunpoint.
He said luck eluded the suspects as the motorbike they used in the operation developed a fault, they tried to escape on foot but were given a hot chase by some youths and were arrested.
The District Commander said the timely intervention of the police saved the lines of the two. Superintendent Yembila said that the two admitted its offence in their caution statement.
He said the Police retrieved the amount, recharge cards, the locally manufactured pistol and a machete from the suspects.
He said the police have been receiving reports of such broad day robbery activities from Teshie and added that the suspects were believed to be behind such attacks.
Supt Yembila advised mobile money transfer and recharge card vendors to deposit their sales at the banks in good time and to be extra vigilant of their immediate environment at all times.
