Two die in accident at Dansukrom

The sprinter bus involved in the accidentTwo people died in a fatal crash at Dansukrom, near Sefwi Bekwai, in the Western Region, yesterday morning, when a passenger vehicle travelling to Kumasi in Ashanti Region, veered off the road and hit an electric pole.

According to the police, the Mercedes Sprinter bus, with registration number AS 4373-15, veered  off the road, and hit an electrical pole, resulting in the accident.

All the 23 passengers, including  the driver, Robert Mensah,39,  and  four children, sustained  injuries, and were  rushed to the Greenshield and Peace  and Grace hospitals,  at Sefwi Bekwai, but two of them were pronounced dead  on arrival.

Those who sustained severe injuries, have been transferred to the Sefwi Wiawso and Bibiani hospitals for further treatment.

One of the dead has been identified as Mamle Tettey, 35, while the other, a male, is yet to be identified, the police reported, adding that the bodies had been deposited at the Bibiani Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Sefwi Bekwai District  Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police  (ASP) Valentine .K. Akposu,  said at about 10 am, yesterday, Mensah, was driving the  Mercedes Benz Sprinter  bus from Sefwi Wiawso to Kumasi, and, on reaching a section of the highway at Dansukrom, near Sefwi Bekwai, he  lost control and  the vehicle veered  of the road  and hit  an electric pole.

“According to the passengers there was a tyre burst and so the driver lost control and that’s why he hit the electric pole. He might have stepped on the break,” he explained.

ASP Akposu advised   drivers who ply the Kumasi–Sefwi Wiawso highway to be cautious and drive with care.
