The Asesewa District Police has arrested two people carrying 435 slabs of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP) Stephen Ahiafutor, a search was conducted on a Mercedes Benz carrying sealed bags from the Akateng market in the Upper Manya Krobo District to Bartor in the Volta region, Wednesday evening.
He explained that the driver of the vehicle claimed he was carrying bags of charcoal from the area to Bartor.
DSP Ahiafutor said, when the police searched the vehicle, 435 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were found concealed in the bags of charcoal.
He said the police first arrested Ebenezer Zotogbi, 36, a driver’s mate at a police checkpoint in Asesewa, and the second suspect, who has only been identified as James, 44, was apprehended Thursday morning.
