The police at Techiman, in the Brong Ahafo Region, have during a swoop
arrested two suspected land guards who have been terrorising residents of Tuobodom.
The suspects, Gariba Muniru and Ibrahim Mumuni, are natives of Bawku in the Upper East Region. Their accomplice, Nasiru Issaku, is on the run.
For some months now, residents of Fosukrom, near Tuobodom, both suburbs of Techiman, have been complaining about the activities of land guards in the area.
Currently, two victims are on admission at the Holy Family Hospital after being shot by the land guards.
Ameyaw Adjei Kuffour, a 49-year-old mason resident at Techiman, and one of his apprentices, Kwaa Takyi, were both shot in the arm and back respectively.
The police acting upon a tip-off, raided the homes of the suspects and retrieved guns, cartridges and other weapons.
Muniru was arrested with a pump-action gun with eight rounds of cartridges in it and 23 cartridges in a black polythene bag in his room.
According to the police, Mumuni, a motor dealer confessed to being part of the team, even though no ammunition was found in his home during the raid.
Police also found a pump action gun with 35 AA cartridges in black polythene, a jack knife, an axe and a pair of combat boot in the home of Nasiru Issaku.
