Truck Crashes On Highway

achimota acidentA driver of an articulated truck with registration number GT3801Y carrying two containers and his mate escaped death, when their Tarkwa bond vehicle summersaulted on the Achimota over head in Accra on yesterday.

The accident, which occurred at about 7am, caused heavy traffic and attracted a large crowd.

As at 9am when The Ghanaian Times team got to the scene, personnel of the Tesano Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) were there controlling traffic while efforts where being made to remove the containers from the trailer. It was eventually cleared of the road at about 12 noon.

Though the cause of the accident was not immediately known, eye-witnesses said they saw the vehicle hit the pavement on the Lapaz direction of the N1 Highway and fell on the road with the head facing the opposite direction and the containers on the other side.

The Tesano MTTU Commander, Superintendent Agnes Caesar, told the Times that statements would be taken from the driver to determinant the cause of the accident would be investigated.

She could not, however, disclose the content of the containers, but said the trailer was from Tema enroute to Tarkwa.
