Trouble brewing in Bolga

Trouble is brewing in Bolgatanga, over who is to succeed the late Bolga-Naba, the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, Martin Adongo Abilba III, who died on September 26, 2013.

The traditional area is likely to be ruled by two paramount chiefs, information gathered by The Ghanaian Times indicates.

While preparations have been finalised for the installation of a new Paramount Chief at the forecourt of the Bolga-Naba’s palace at 9 o’clock today, another Bolga-Naba was enskinned in Nalerigu on Wednesday, by a rival group.

From Nalerigu, A. A. Mbord reports that Mr. Joseph Apekre Nyaaba, a 35-year-old Marketing Manager of GHACEM in-charge of the Northern and Upper East regions, has been installed as paramount chief.

He was enskined by the Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Naa Bohago Mahami Abdulal Sheriga, at a well-attended and impressive ceremony.

The new chief, whose title is Naba Abeka Noontaba Maltega, is to replace Naba Adongo Abilba III, who died on September 26, 2013.

The enskinment follwos his unanimous selection by 13 contenders to the skin from five Royal Gates, including the Agawure, Atulba tia, Agbere Abeka, Akunlibe and Agandaa gates.

The king of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Sheriga, after the enskinment of the chief, admonished him to do everything possible to unite all the people within his traditional area.

“You should mobilise your people to rebuild your shattered area in terms of social, and community development,” he said.

The new paramount chief, on his part, assured the people that he would be chief for all.
