Traders want Mallamatta market reconstructed

Traders at the Mallamatta Market in Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, have appealed to the government to reconstruct the market to make it conducive for trading.

They said the market has not seen any facelift since its establishment.

According to the traders, the market has been abandoned and it has become muddy, particularly when it rained, thereby affecting selling and buying.

The traders told The Ghanaian Times that the past National Democratic Congress government made provisions for the reconstruction of the market.

They said plans were also in place to build police and fire posts, crèche, clinic, and offices for renting.

A cassava seller at the market, Madam Gifty Mensah, said the project was to span over a period of seven years in phases so as not to deny traders access to space for their trading activities.

A shop owner at the market, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said “We were also promised hygienic conditions in the market, a waste management facility, adequate parking space and all other facilities that will make the market conducive for trading,”
