Trader in court for dealing in ‘wee’

A trader has appeared before Accra Circuit Court “one” for concealing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in food meant for her brother, who was on remand for murder, at the police cells.

Patience Abbey, accused, pleaded not guilty to the offence, and was also remanded in police custody.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo told the court presided by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh that on February 2, the accused sent food (banku) to her brother, Nii Aryi, who is on remand over a murder case.

The court heard that when the food was inspected by the police, three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a techno mobile phone was concealed in the food, and Abbey was arrested.

Chief Insp. Dosoo said the accused told police that she was sent by one Vida Nortey to send the food to the brother, but she could not lead the police to arrest the woman.

He said that the substance has been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.
