A strong female supporter of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Hajia Fati, was arrested by police early yesterday, for her alleged involvement in the smashing of the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong’s vehicle.
The rear windscreen of Mr. Agyepong’s four-wheel drive was smashed at the Party Headquarters on Tuesday, by unknown persons, after he left a Steering Committee meeting, where he had gone to inform the leadership, of a pending court suit concerning the suspension of the National Chairman, Paul Afoko.
An eye-witness said angry supporters attacked the vehicle because they believed Mr. Agyepong had attempted to disrupt the meeting over the pending law suit.
The party’s Deputy Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto, also announced the decision of the Steering Committee to fix the broken windscreen.
But Mr. Agyepong yesterday, lodged an official complaint at the Police Headquarters in Accra, leading to the arrest of Hajia Fati.
A source close to the party said Mr. Agyepong’s personal driver, who accused Hajia Fati, for the attack, said he saw some supporters hailing her after the crash.
She has since been granted police enquiry bail, pending further investigations.
