Top Danish side signs Sammy Adjei Jnr

SamYOUNG prolific striker Sammy Adjei Jr, has decided to ‘nail his colours’ to the Danish League – hoping to make gigantic waves in Europe next year.

Adjei, who played for the Reserve team of New York Red Bulls in the US Major League Soccer (MLS), and poked home more than a dozen goals, has signed a one-year contract with Danish top side – Naestved Boldklub.

Naestved, who are currently lying in second place on the league table – just two points shy of leaders Marienlyst, snatched Adjei from the ‘jaws’ of struggling Sydvest – having seen the Ghanaian-born goal-poacher dazzle in the Danish second tier league.

The 21-year-old burly striker first joined Sydvest mid-season and in nine games had scored six goals – some from incredible distances. Fascinated by his exploits, officials of Naestved ‘pounced’ on Adjei to have his signature at the end of the season – a move that eventually culminated in the one-year contract initialed on December 11.

“I have seen and followed him and his performance is so compelling that we cannot help but get him on board,” says club chairman Jesper Frisenholm.

According to Frisenholm, Naestved is thrilled to beat off strong competition from first division teams – believing Adjei has what it takes to power the club to the elite division.

“I thank God, my family and all those who made this move possible and I look forward to working with the coaching staff as well as my new teammates.

“I also want to extend my appreciation to my coaches, old teammates as well as fans of FC Sydvest for their support during my stay,” says Adjei, who is expected to join Naestved on a pre-season tour in January ahead of the start of the league in March.

The goal-hungry Adjei, son of former national star Sammy Adjei of Ashantigold SC fame, left Ghana at age 12 with his family to the United States to further his education.
