Top-8 volleyball tournament takes off today

The top 8 international friendly Volleyball tournament which is being organised by the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) begins today at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The seven day tournament will see the host country, Ghana, battle for supremacy with seven other West African Countries at the Accra Sports Stadium Volleyball Court and the Lebanon Volleyball court in Tudu.

Apart from Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Niger, Nigeria and Burkina Faso have all confirmed their participation.

According to the President of GVA, Mr. Paul Archoe, the international friendly tournament is being put together to test the strength of the national Volleyball team (Black Spikers) for the up-coming 2015 All African Games which is scheduled to take place next month in Congo Brazzaville.

“To make sure we put up our best performance at the games we bringing to Ghana these seven countries to compete with our team. The purpose of the competition is to toughen our players morally and physically for the bigger task in Congo next month.

Mr. Archoe noted that the association believes the competitive nature of the tournament would boost the team’s morale and strength as the invited participating countries all have a very solid volleyball team.

Volleyball enthusiasts will be charged an amount of Ghc 5.00 at the gates.

The tournament which is an annual competition that rotates among the Zone III member countries in West African should have taken place last year but was postponed to this year due to the outbreak of the deadly ebola virus in the Sub Region last year.
