THREE-quarters of the total Landscape of the Puveme community in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region had been washed away by ferocious Tidal Sea Waves.
The once prosperous fishing community has seen tidal waves destroy over 2,000 houses of inhabitants within the space of three years.
The latest destruction which occurred last week left the entire community with only about 30-metre-square land between the sea, the Volta Lake and the rest of the community.
While most of the inhabitants have moved to join other relatives in nearby communities, the remaining 30, vowed never to leave until government fulfilled its promise to relocate them to another place.
According to them, the government promised to allocate parcels of land in the adjacent communities to Puveme inhabitants but has reneged on such promises.
“We cannot continue to rely on vain promises when our lives are in constant danger from the high tidal waves,” they complained.
When The Spectator visited the area last Friday, the community was virtually empty with about 30 inhabitants comprising 10 women and 20 men holding a crunch meeting with some of their properties in the open.
The Head of Puveme, Moses Tana Akorli, in an interview attributed the destruction of the area to the construction of the Ada Sea Defence wall as the force of the sea waves along the Eastern side, makes the area vulnerable to high tides and currents anytime the sea gets rough.
He said the recent disaster was the 15th in three years, thus giving the victims sleepless nights.
Mr Akorli indicated that, several appeals made to the Assembly, proved futile as the Assembly claimed that the project was beyond its financial capability.
He said they were shown a parcel of land at Agorkedzi, a suburb of Atiteti but were never given the demarcation or any direction as to how the allocation would be made, leaving them in a limbo.
“We do not have water to drink the only source of water have been destroyed by the waves and as for electricity we have never seen it before” he added
