Three injured in Mugu-Mashegu communal clash

A communal clash between the people of Mugu in the Kumbungu district and their counterparts at Mashegu in the Sangnarigu District over a parcel of land last Sunday evening, left three people wounded, one of them, seriously.

They are all on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the clash to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.

According to him, the clash erupted when the chief of Kumbungu and his elders attempted to claim a portion of Mugu land, near Masheguwgu to which they (Mashegu) protested.

He said the dispute between the two communities over that parcel of land had been lingering for some time now but the Sanganrigu and Kumbungu District Security Committees had been managing the situation, but got out of hand, with the two communities attacking each other on the land in dispute.

ASP Tetteh said calm has since been restored in the area and a combined team of the police and military are patrolling the whole are.

“Currently, police and military personnel have been stationed at both Mugu and Mashegu to maintain law and order,” and prevent possible reprisal attacks, he assured.
