Three Fulani Armed Robbers Arrested

They are Haruna Esun, 19, Amadu Osman, 24 and Ali Sumali, 19.

They were reported to have robbed their victims of their valuables and shot one Bukari who died on admission at Assin Fosu hospital in the Central Region.

Items recovered from the robbers included, military boots, a locally-made pistol, a lacoste T-shirt and car documents. A victim of the robbery Alhasan of the Immigration Service, Assin Fosu has identified the boots, lacoste T-shirt and car documents as his property.

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP), Prosper Kwame Agblor, told newsmen at a press conference in Accra on Monday that on June 2, at 11:30 p.m., there was a reported robbery case between Assin Edubiase and Assin Kwaata, six miles from Assin Fosu towards Cape Coast.

He said six armed robbers of Fulani extraction were reported to have stopped a fleet of vehicles on the route and robbed the occupants of various items including mobile phones, cash and other valuable properties.

COP Agblor said the Assin Fosu District Police were informed of the robbery but by the time they rushed to the scene the robbers had fled.

He said on June 3, at 7 a.m., a police checkpoint at Assin Fosu on the Obuasi road identified the suspect Ali Osumanu aged 19 years and of Fulani extraction, one of the robbers, in a bus driving towards Obuasi.

He was arrested and during a search on him, ten (10) mobile phones and GH¢400 were found.

COP Agblor said during interrogation one of the phones started ringing and the one identified himself as the owner, adding that the person said he was one of the victims, who were robbed by the Fulani armed robbers.

He said the suspect thereafter confessed that he was an armed robber and lived in Nkawkaw.

He stated further that his five other accomplices came from Kumasi and they met at a mosque at Assin Fosu to plan the robbery.

COP Agblor said the police gathered information that the robbers shot and critically wounded one Bukari aged 26 years during the robbery and he was rushed to Saint Francis Hospital at Assin Fosu but died on admission.

He said the Anti-Armed Robbery Squad, with the assistance of personnel from the Narcotic Unit proceeded to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region and with the assistance of the Buffalo Unit arrested his accomplices.
