The Nii Klu Din We, of the Krobo Quarter of Teshie, which has the sole prerogative to install a Mankralo of Teshie, has affirmed the enstoolment of Jonathan Adjetey Adjei, as the substantive Mankralo, of the town with the stool name Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III.
The affirmation by the principal elders of the family was necessitated by a ruling from a three-man fact-finding committee set up by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, to adjudicate on Teshie chieftaincy disputes.
Following the affirmation, the kingmakers have outline plans to outdoor the new Mankralo, in preparation for the installation of a new chief for Teshie which has been absence for the past 31years.
The last chief of Teshie, Nii Ashitey Akonfran, passed away in 1985, and since then the town has been without a Mankralo and a chief.
The vacuum created by the absence of a chief, led to numerous disputes in the past.
It is, to bring an end to these disputes that the kingmakers settled on Jonathan Adjetey Adjei , as the new Mankralo, with the stool name Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III.
Giving the background to the issues at stake, Henry Nii Sowah Otinkorang, Family Head of Nii Klu Din We, in a media engagement yesterday, explained that the occupation of the Mankralo office had gone through thorough process leading to the choice of the new Mankralo.
He said the family had gone ahead to perform the purification rites for Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III, as part of the tradition for the installation of a Mankralo for Teshie falls.
Speaking about some of the challenges they had to overcome, Nii Sowah Otinkorang, said the family was confronted with a protest from one of the gates who also claimed that “it was their turn to nominate a candidate for that position.”
Nii Otinkorang said with the new development the position of the office of Mankralo for Teshie was delayed following an appeal to the Regional House of Chiefs for Adjudication, to help the in resolving matter.
He said the fact-finding committee decided to take holistic approach to research into the Teshie chieftaincy affairs and find a lasting solutions to the vacant positions such as the paramount stool, the Mankralo stool, the Dzase stool, and the Shikitele Stool, “ but our interest lies with the Mankralo Stool.”
Nii Otinkorang said the Committee after sometime, came out with their report and in order to put the matter to rest in the final stages of the adjudication, asked the Nii Klu Din Family to affirm their choice, for the position of Mankralo, “after which, we wrote to them confirming the position of Nii Okang Duamro as our choice.”
He said the family looking for lasting peace in Teshie and to move the process forward, “the family resolved to take our destiny in our own hand, by going ahead to perform the necessary rites for Nii Okang Nmashie to continue with his work as Teshie Mankralo at the Traditional Council.”
