Headline sponsors of the annual McDan tennis championship, McDan Shipping Company has vowed to stage a spectacular event this year that will remain in the memories of tennis fans for a long time.
Group Chairman of the company, Dr. Daniel McKorley said his outfit was committed to raise the bar on the third edition of the tournament that goes international this year.
Scheduled for Monday, June 27 to July 2, the avid tennis enthusiast revealed that the steady progress of the tournament, having assumed international dimension is a strong indication of his pledge that the tournament has come to stay.
This year’s edition is opened to players in the West African sub-region and will be expected to be keenly fought for between the locally based players and the foreigners.
What also makes it quite attractive is the sharp rise in the prize money, and according to Dr. McKorley, the decision was to amplify competition.
He mentioned that plans were underway to rope in potential world class tennis players who will be on McDan’s payroll as part of efforts to support the youth in the country.
“This year’s edition is an improvement upon the first two editions and the fact that it has gone international is a fulfilled pledge I made last year,” he said.
“McDan tennis has come to stay; the country is blessed with so many sports talents and since it is not everyone that has the ability to play football or box, then tennis will give hope and future to our up and coming youth.”
Meanwhile, McDan marked his birthday last week with a presentation of food items, toiletries and a special cash donation to the Teshie Orphanage.
