Tema Traditional Council bans drumming, noisemaking

The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) on Thursday placed a ban on drumming and noise making in the traditional area as part of preparation towards this year’s Homowo festival.

The ban which starts from Friday, April 26, 2019 and ends on May 17, 2019 will be used by the traditional priests and priestesses to pray to God for peace and prosperity for the nation.

The period also coincides with the sowing season.

Explaining the significance of the occasion to pressmen, President of the TTC, Nii Adjei Kraku II, expressed the hope that individuals and groups in the traditional area would not engage in activities that would lead to any form of noise such as playing musical instruments, clapping, whistling and shouting.

To ensure strict compliance to the sacred custom Nii Kraku II said: “A task force comprising the Asafoatsemei and Asafoanyemei would comb every nook and cranny of the traditional area to seize any musical instruments that would be used to create noise and apprehend recalcitrant persons or groups to be punished or fined.”

The traditional area covers Ashaiman, Zeenu, Kubekro, Saasabi, Adigon, Klangon, Sakumono, Adjei Kojo, Adjeiman and Tema Communities 1 to 22.
