A 16-year-old girl who allegedly killed her six months old baby girl, and buried her in their house at Tanoso, in Kumasi, has been arraigned in a magistrate court here, provisionally charged with murder.
The court, presided over by Mr. Peter Oppong Boahen, ordered the exhumation of the body for an autopsy, when the teen appeared before it on Wednesday.
The exhumation of the body, according to the court, was to help the Police carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the baby.
The plea of the 16-year-old girl, was not taken and she was remanded into police custody until August 31.
Police Sergeant Michael Koole, told the court that the girl and her other five siblings stayed with their auntie and grandmother, Emelia Owusu, at Tanoso a suburb of Kumasi after their mother passed away four years ago.
Prosecution said one Benjamin Osei Bonsu, made the girl pregnant when she was writing the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and gave birth to a baby girl in February 2016.
Bonsu could not take care of the girl and the baby, so she had to work at chop bars to get money to take care of herself and the baby, the prosecution said.
Sgt Kode indicated that when she could no longer bear the difficulty of working to take care of her baby, she allegedly poisoned the baby and buried her in front of the house on July 19, 2016, without the knowledge of her guardians.
Sgt. Koole told the court that, when her auntie and grandmother did not see the baby in the house for some days, they confronted her, but she could not tell them the whereabout of the baby,so her auntie reported the matter to the police.
The girl was arrested and during police investigation, she confessed to killing and burying her baby in front of the house.
