Mohammed Issah, 18, yesterday appeared before the Tema Development Company (TDC) District Court for allegedly stealing fuses from a substation at Community 2 belonging to the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a GH¢4,000 bail with two sureties.
He would make his second appearance in court on July 8.
The court presided over by Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, heard that on June 13, this year, the suspect was caught by some people while he removed fuses from the distribution pillar (in the substation) near Edzi Bookshop at Tema.
He was apprehended by some residents and they subsequently handed him over to the police with the fuses he kept in a sack.
The suspect, during investigation, led the police to a scrap yard near the West African Examination Council (WAEC) office at Tema Community 5, where he claimed he had been selling the fuses and other scraps, but the dealers denied knowledge of him.
When the yard was searched, no fuse was found among the items in the scrapyard.
The court also heard that due to the recent theft of fuses from substations in communities leading to power outages, the PDS had lodged a complaint with the Community 2 Police Station and organised durbars to educate residents to help reprimand persons found tampering with their installations.
