Teacher charged with indecent assault

A 28-year-old teacher, Gideon Saah, on Friday appeared before an Accra circuit court for indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Saah was said to have inserted his figure into the girl’s private part, in December 2016 at Dansoman in Accra.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000.00 with one surety by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.

The case has been adjourned to April 26.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Agnes Boafo told the court that the complainant is the mother of the victim, and they both live at Dansoman.

She said the accused person is also the headteacher at Rock Dignity Academy, where the victim attends school and also lives at Flamingo near Russia, a suburb in Accra.

ASP Boafo said in December last year, the victim and her colleagues went for Saturday classes, which was arranged by the accused at the school premises.

The prosecution said on reaching the school, they waited for a long period, but the accused did not turn up, so the students decided to go to Gideon’s (accused) house to enquire if the classes would come on or not.

On reaching Saah’s house, he offered them a seat and gave them books to read outside. Whilst reading, Saah called the victim into his room with the intention of teaching her how to read the Bible.

ASP Boafo said the victim refused, but the accused was able to convince her to enter the room.

She said Saah inserted his finger into the girl’s private part, and warned the victim not to tell anyone about what happened to her and if she dares tell someone bad omen would befall her.

ASP Boafo told the court that, the victim went home and did not inform her parents about her ordeal.

The court heard that in March this year, the victim noticed that unusual fluid was coming out from her private parts and told her parents about it.

Upon the information, the parents made a complaint at the Dansoman Police and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for medical examination and report. – GNA
