Tapping Cloud Seeding To Control Ebola

The Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which was discovered in 1976, has surfaced again, killing over 1,900 people between March and August, 2014, in West Africa.

Some experimental drugs are being explored quickly for the treatment of the disease, whilst the disease seems to speed around the globe, with rumours of its arrival in Sweden.

However, this author believes that immediate modification of environmental conditions in endemic areas may halt the spreading of the virus efficiently, while the search for vaccines to cure it continues.

Scientifically, it is changes in land use practices which affect the dispersal of pathogens, while climate influences their range, timing and intensity. Since Ebola is ribonucleic acid, it usually emerges during cold, cloudy and foggy weather conditions in tropical areas, just like what pertains in the cases of cholera and LASSA.

When temperatures remain low in the face of continuous rainfall, tropical weather approaches a temperate one, resulting in disease problems.

A critical look at the weather in Liberia, Sierra Leone and the general West African sub region reveals that, the weather during the outbreak of the disease is very humid and cloudy, with high temperatures.

For example, in Liberia, precipitation usually occurs during 56% of a single day. Humidity in August ranges between 59% and 97%; where the temperature remain high between 22 and 32 degrees Celsius. The cloud cover takes values between 88% and 90%. In Sierra Leone, the cloud cover is 75%.

One important way by which clouds can be dispersed in order to reduce temperature, precipitation and humidity in Ebola endemic areas, is the technique of cloud seeding.

This is a form of weather modification under which rainfall is either stopped or caused by spraying certain chemicals into the atmosphere. The chemicals act either as cloud clearing or cloud condensation materials. Examples of such chemicals are silver dioxide, potassium iodide, liquid propane, sodium chloride and silver iodide.

In tropical areas, calcium chloride is the preferred cloud seeding chemical. The equipment used to spray the chemical into the air may be aircraft, ground generators or rockets.

Hence, the air force may rally round forest guards and the UN Security Council, so that this process may be carried out without problems of environmental pollution. A good example where clouds and rainfall were cleared using cloud seeding technology was during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games of Beijing in China.

Also, during the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Communist Party of China, in 2009; eighteen cloud seeding aircrafts and 48 fog dispersal vehicles were dispatched to make sure that rain does not disrupt the ceremony.

The United States of America also used cloud seeding techniques during the Vietnam War. Thus, the proposed Ebola logistics center in Ghana may contact the Beijing Weather Modification Office through the World Health Organization in efforts to modify the weather.

The Weather Modification, Inc. at Fargo in North Dakota of the United States of America may also help in clearing the clouds over West Africa and elsewhere. Cleanliness may be imparted to forests and rivers so that their influence on human existence may not turn explosive all of a sudden! In many areas of the world, bush meat is a major source of protein for humans.

Thus, scientific measures which would make Ebola containing animals safe for consumption may be applied while livestock is promoted globally. The Discovery of the Ebola virus occured in the Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly called Zaire; Sudan, Cote d’Ivoire, Virginia in the US, and Uganda. However, countries in other parts of the world may also have various strains of the virus, which may cause health problems of different kinds.

Hence this article entreats the entire academic world to open up research into the existence and scope of the virus without hesitation. It is the invention of the electron microscope in 1931 which enabled the discovery of the smaller viruses, so many of the extremely tiny ones in many parts of the world may still remain unknown to humans.

Finally, the entire world is cautioned to study the skin lesion known as petechiae, which is caused by EVD closely in relation to argyria, which is the disorder caused by excessive amounts of atmospheric silver compounds: so that nations who take keen interest in using weapons to solve disputes, may reform their policies.

The guns which were used to fight wars in Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Virginia and Uganda may be reviewed in order to diagnose the real cause of the mutation that brought about Ebola.

Schools on vacation in West Africa may remain closed, till the weather becomes normal. General spraying which would make the entire environment safe for human habitation, is recommended.

Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Australia are other places where cloud seeding techniques have been used to promote agriculture; hence any resultant drought problems may be solved, in order to boost agricultural production. If sincerity in displaying supremacy eludes humanity, mere existence would terminate!
