Talensi District Assembly Completes Street Naming

In compliance with President John Mahama’s directive on street naming and property numbering, the Talensi District Assembly in the Upper East Region has completed the exercise within the scheduled time.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The Ghanaian Times from Tongo, the capital of Talensi yesterday, the District Chief Executive, Edward Awunnore said a durbar of the chiefs and people of the area will be held today to mark the successful completion of the exercise and to symbolically erect sign posts of the streets.

He said traditional rulers will erect the sign post for the Abokere-Nasinga Street in Tongo, while the Winkongo- Tongo street sign post will be erected by him at Winkongo to climax the ceremony.

Other streets that were approved by the chiefs, assembly members and other stakeholders for erection are Winkongo Clinic; Hospital-Baare-Beo; Tongo-Yamariga; Tengzug; Kaare-Gorogo; Shia; Naaba Sabalu; Big Boss and Awara.

Mr. Awunnore commended traditional rulers, assembly members, staff of the Assembly and other stakeholders who worked tirelessly to ensure the completion of the exercise.

He urged the people to dispel the notion that the property numbering exercise was meant for taxation.

Mr. Awunnore said the exercise was to help in planning, and ensure the easy identification and direction of towns and communities in the district.

He called on the people to remain united and support the assembly in its development agenda to better their lot.
