‘Take education of girl child seriously’

An Elder of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Armah Somponu, has advised parents to take education of their girl child seriously so that they become responsible citizens in future.

He said women also had what it takes to make meaningful contributions to society and so should be supported to achieve that.

Nii Armah Somponu, Nii Shipii (elder) of the Tema Traditional Council made the statement when the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Adwoa Amoako, led some staff of the assembly to make a presentation to the Tema Traditional Council toward the Kplejoo festival celebrated by the people of Tema and surrounding communities.

Some items presented included cartons of bottled water, schnapps, assorted alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and undisclosed cash.

The Elder said the council was impressed to see Mrs Amoako as the first female to be appointed as Chief Executive in the municipality and also in Tema.

He said parents should be motivated by the rise of Mrs Amoako to invest in their daughters and called on young ladies in Tema to see her as a figure worh emulating.

Nii Armah Somponu also commended the assembly for contributing towards the festival to make it a success.

Mrs Amoako in response, expressed appreciation to the Tema Traditional Council for supporting the assembly which was in its infancy and assured that she would work harder to justify the trust reposed in her.

The Tema Mantse.  Nii Adjei Kraku II, received the items on behalf of the traditional body and thanked the MCE for the gesture.
