‘Korean robbery victim, not diplomat’

The Korean Embassy in Accra has explained that the Korean robbed at Golden Tulip Hotel on April 4, this year, is not a diplomat.

The news of alleged robbery attack on a Korean diplomat, who lodged at the hotel, was published in the newspapers and online network on Tuesday.

However, a highly placed source at the Korean Embassy, told the Ghanaian Times the information that the victim was a diplomat was factually inaccurate.

The details about the victim whose name was withheld were sketchy but the Ghanaian Times learned that the victim was a staff of Customs UNI-PASS International Agency.

The management of Golden Tulip confirmed on Monday that a Korean diplomat, who lodged at the hotel, was allegedly robbed by an unidentified person on April 4.

In a telephone interview, a staff at the hotel said the Airport police arrived at the hotel the following morning with crime scene detectives, who took fingerprints and other forensic information to aid in their investigations.

The police are yet to give us feedback of their findings, the staff told the Ghanaian Times on phone, and said that the diplomat had since returned to his home country, Korea.

When contacted, the Commander of Airport Police, Mr Kwarteng, corroborated the story, but said that the report had been submitted to the Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Afia Tenge.
