Taekwondo Federation rolls out plans

This year’s Ghana Taekwondo regional championship has been scheduled to kick start in Takoradi on Saturday December 27, 2015 for all taekwondo clubs.

Taekwondo clubs across the country are expected to participate in the championship.

President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) Frederick Lartey Otoo, disclosed this at the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the federation held at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.

The meeting was used to take stock of the federation’s current administration’s past two years in office.

He explained that the championship forms part of the programmes lined up for the latter part of the year 2015 and 2016.

“This championship is among other activities we have planned for the year 2016. These activities include licensing course for referees and instructors, an Olympic qualification tournament as well as regional championships.”

Among other issues that were discussed at the AGM was the need for the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) to create more community taekwondo clubs in the country.

The meeting also tasked the various regional chairmen to institute measures to facilitate their preparation towards organising regional open taekwondo championships in their respective regions.

The Public Relations Officer of the federation, Mr. Adnan Lamptey said “the Korean Cup” and the taekwondo video contest awards will be held early next month, pointing out that only registered clubs and members can participate in the competition.

The chairman of the Greater Accra region taekwondo association, DSP Simon Agbodeka, in an interview said his outfit intends to organise an all ladies championship as well as a joint regional walk.

He said the region has 26 clubs and therefore all the registered clubs must make an effort to take part in the exercise.
