David Asampana, 27, an armed robber, has been arrested by the Takoradi police for his involvement in a series of robberies recorded in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, since August, this year.

The suspect, also known as Kwabena Azure, according to the police, is a serial robber who wields knives and guns to attack victims, especially, taxi drivers and robs them of their monies.

He sometimes uses women as decoy to swing   taxi drivers, after he has hired them and steals the taxis, removes car tapes, mobile phones and moneys and later abandons the vehicles and sells his booty.”

“He takes dropping and uses women who stand at vantage points in the night and then robs the victims.” the Takoradi Police Commander, Superintendent Peter Ofori Donkor told The Ghanaian Times yesterday.

The Police Commander explained that, in the early part of August this year, the police received series of reports from taxi drivers within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis about robbery attacks and snatching of their vehicles.

He said the police made several attempts, but could not find the criminals until on November 7 this year, when they arrested a policeman and two others for stealing an engine block of a vehicle at Tanokrom and decided to sell it at Kokompe.

“When they came to the Central Police station, we realised that the other accomplice was the notorious armed robber Asampana, who had been on the run,” he stated

“We organised an identification parade led by the Regional Crime Officer, Mr. Reubin Asiwoko, and myself, and the two complainant identified him as the suspect.

He told The Ghanaian Times that, earlier in August 5, Asampana was involved in another robber at Top Ten in Takoradi, saying that “he is a serial and notorious armed robber.”
