Suspected robber killed by police in gun battle

A suspected armed robber was yesterday shot dead in a gun battle with the police at Asuabo Oda in the Eastern Region.

The deceased, identified as Omari, and also known as Jah or Boosu is said to have been on the police wanted list for some time for his involvement in series of robberies and break-in of forex bureaux in Accra and its environs.

A locally manufactured gun had since been retrieved by the police.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Effia Tenge told the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

She said on March 6, at about 6:30a.m the Command, based upon tip-off, located the hideout of the suspect at Asuabo.

ASP Tenge said, at Asuabo police tried to arrest him but he pulled a side arm and attempted firing at them, adding that “the police responded and he was hit at his back and he fell”.

She called on the public to support the police by volunteering information.

ASP Tenge assured the public of their continuous efforts in helping protecting lives and properties in the country even at the peril of their lives.
