An unidentified man on Friday died through electrocution at the Nzema Mensah Hall at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) campus, when he attempted to steal an underground cable belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)


According to the police, the man, about 30, died when he attempted to cut an underground high tension 33 kilovolt (KV) cables.


The body of the deceased has been photographed, removed and deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.


Briefing the Ghanaian Times, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said at about 2.10pm, on Friday, the Chief Security Officer, Kwame Cherubin Ametepey, reported to the police that he had seen a dead body near Nzema Mensah Hall at TTU.


The police, she said, went to the scene and saw a male adult electrocuted, adding that investigations revealed that staff of ECG had dug a trench to trace a fault on their underground high tension 33KV cables.


“Investigations further revealed that the deceased went into the trench with cutlass and cutter and attempted to cut the 33KV cable and in the process he was electrocuted,” she said.


The police are still investigating the case, ASP Adiku told the Ghanaian Times.
