An 18-year old man was   yesterday sentenced to 35 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court, in connection with the robbery and murder of a staff of Vodafone Ghana at Sakumono, near Tema.

Abdul Razak Ibrahim, a steel bender, pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery and was sentenced by the court.

He is yet to be tried for the murder charge.

Ebow Panford Quainoo, 30, Marketing Officer of the Airport branch, of Vodafone Ghana, was killed by armed robbers at his residence at Sakumono, during a robbery spree in the area.

Quainoo was shot in the head while at home with his wife (name withheld), a banker with the Sahel Sahara Bank.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr. George Akuffu Dampare, told journalists at a media encounter in Accra yesterday, that Ibrahim was arrested on November 10, and the items he and his gang stole from their victims, were retrieved.

COP Dampare said five others (name withheld) were in police custody for dishonestly receiving the items and the police had mounted a search for the other accomplices.

The Ghanaian Times on November 12, reported that about 1:30am on November 11, two men armed with a pump action gun, attacked occupants of a house at Sakumono.

The report said the robbers broke the door to the house and entered the bedroom where they shot Quainoo, while his wife was lying in the living room.

The wife said she heard a scream from the bedroom and when she rushed there, she saw that the husband had been shot and was lying in a pool of blood.

One of the men who was holding a stick, ordered her to bring the money in the house, so she took GH¢150 from her purse, a lap-top and phone and gave them to the robbers.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Greater Accra, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ACP) Afia Teye said the robbers also took away a flat screen television from the living room and escaped.

ASP Tenge said the body of the deceased had since been deposited at the Police Hospital for preservation.

According to her, occupants of a house at Vulcaniser area, at Sakumono, were also robbed of their valuables.
