Sunyani SHS to get facelift

Mahama Ayariga, Youth and Sports MinisterSunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) is to witness a facelift as plans are underway to upgrade its facilities to serve as a model school in the Brong Ahafo Region.

As part of the facelift, a sports academy is to be established in the school to help unearth and develop sporting talents in the region.

The project, which involved the redevelopment of existing sports facilities and the creating of new ones, is expected to start soon.

Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Youth and Sports, who announced this during an inspection tour of sports facilities in the Sunyani municipality on Wednesday, indicated that SUSEC was selected by the Ghana Education Service based on available facilities in the school.

In a meeting with the school authorities, the Sports Minster explained that the government intended to partner corporate associations such as the Ghana Chamber of Mines, to develop sports infrastructure in selected schools across the country.

The intiative, he noted, was aimed at providing holistic education for students as well as developing the sporting talents of young people.

That, he said would be beneficial since such sporting activities would engage the attention of the youth and reduce social vices among the youth.

Mrs. Georgina Boakye, headmistress of the school, welcoming the minister, expressed delight for the inclusion of SUSEC in the nationwide project, and assured the government of support.

The minister, who was accompanied by the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Justice Samuel Adjei, also toured the Sunyani Coronation Park and charged the sports authorities there to take good care of the facilities, especially the football pitch.
