South Sudan has expressed support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, saying South Sudan still does not recognise any Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) entity.

South Sudan also lauded the Initiative of Autonomy Plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco aimed at finding a political solution for the regional dispute over the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, while reiterating her full support to the role played by the United Nations as an exclusive and consensual framework to reach a lasting solution to the regional dispute.

Nhial Deng Nhial, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, conveyed his country’s support for Morocco at a meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita in Rabat, Morocco.

In a joint communiqué after the meeting, Mr. Nhial clarified the official position of his country, according to him the “Republic of South Sudan has never had any kind of diplomatic ties and is not maintaining any relation with the so-called “SADR” or any other Sahrawi entity.”

This official meeting between the two ministers aimed at strengthening the ties of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between Morocco and South Sudan.

As part of the meeting, the ministers took stock of the dynamic and strong relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their firm determination to give new impetus and diversify fields of bilateral cooperation towards beneficial partnership.

They are also to promote key sectors of common interest, pursuant to the high directives of the two Heads of State, King Mohammed VI of Morocco and President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan to review regional and international issues of common interest and welcomed the converging positions of both countries relating to questions raised.

Mr. Bourita congratulated Mr. Nhial for reaching a revitalized peace Agreement, signed on September 12, 2018, calling it a bold move for creating a stable and prosperous South Sudan and reiterated Morocco readiness to contribute to consolidation of stability and peace building process in South Sudan.

While lauding the actions undertaken by Morocco in favor of the stability and development of Africa as a whole, Mr Nhial magnified the vision of Morocco on reinforcement of South-South and inter-African cooperation. – mapnews
