A 20-year-old student of Obiri College, in Takoradi, was on Monday, remanded in prison custody by a Takoradi Circuit Court, for allegedly defiling a 15- year-old girl on New Year’s Day.
Daniel Eshun, alias Raswale, was said to have also assaulted Samuel Okyere, a witness in the case.
The accused, who was charged with assault and defilement, pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned to February 15.
The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of his alleged accomplices Estal and Stephen.
Presenting the facts to the court, Chief Inspector Veronica Tibson, said at about 1.30 a.m. on January 1, the victim was returning from a Watch Night Service at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at Kwesimintsim, in Takoradi, under the escort of Samuel Okyere, a family friend.
When they got to the Latex Foam Depot at Apremdo, the accused and his accomplices emerged from nowhere and confronted them with cutlasses and sticks.
They three men mercilessly beat Okyere and when the girl took to her heels, they chased and caught up with her.
“They then had sexual intercourse with her in turns on the ground,” Chief Inspector Tibson told the court
The prosecutor said the girl’s screams attracted some neigh-bours, who chased the accused and his accomplices but they managed to escape.
