Patience Gyamfuah Asiedu, 19, a final year student of Suhum Islamic Girls High School (SHS) in the Suhum municipality of the Eastern Region died after she was knocked down by a Hyundai mini bus on Monday.
She was knocked down by the bus when she was crossing the Accra- Kumasi highway to meet her boyfriend and collect a new phone from him.
The body has since been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
The assistant headmaster of the school, Mr. Tawiah Ebenezer, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, said Patience met her untimely death at about 8:30 pm, when the boyfriend only known as Charles allegedly called the deceased through her friend’s phones to meet him and collect a new mobile phone, food and a calculator along the roadside.
He said the deceased maneuvered her way through the bush in order to escape security, but was unlucky as a Hyundai mini bus that was coming from Nsawam with a high speed knocked her down.
Mr. Tawiah said that Patience was rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He said military personnel who were on duty at a barrier near the school, arrested the boyfriend and handed him over to the police but the police said he (Charles) has not committed any crime, hence, he could not be detained and was freed.
