Stars Get Set For Germany

StarscelebrateORDINARILY, yesterday should have been a rest day for the Black Stars after that absorbing Group G cracker against the United States last Monday night.

But the Stars know all-too well they cannot afford to throw away any precious time now as they resumed training yesterday at their Maceio pitch to get themselves in readiness for a do-or-die battle against Germany.

The fierce looks on faces of the players suggest nothing but a sheer resolute ambition to ride the tempest in the face of all odds.

Ghana slumped 1-2 to the USA at the Estadio das Dunas in their opening match and know they must beat Germany at the Fortaleza’s Estadio Castelao on Saturday to stand any chance of progressing from the group.

Group leaders Germany whitewashed a colourless Cristiano Ronaldo 4-0 at the Arena

Fonte Nova to take a convincing lead at the apex.

Beating Germany is quite a colossal undertaking, but chief coach Kwesi Appiah thinks it is achievable

“It’s not going to be easy to qualify from the group, but we’ll give everything to do just that,” Appiah said.

*Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah says there is no fear of the German national team inspite of their impressive 4-0 dispatch of Portugal in their opening group G game.

The Evian Thonon Gaillard man was in action against the Germans during the 2010 World Cup and says the team is looking to bounce back after their surprise loss to the United States

“We are down but not out and we will try and concentrate on the next game.

We have played the Germans before in 2010 and they were quite tough to beat but we will continue to work hard and with determination we will bounce back. There is no fear of them at all within any of us.”

Ghana needs to avoid a loss to stave off elimination in the clash at Fortaleza on Saturday June 21.
