Stars Coach Up Beat

kwesiappiahaction1KWESI Appiah is confident he has done everything in his power to prevent a FIFA World Cup upset at the hands of USA or any of his other two opponents, Germany and Portugal.

The 2014 tournament provided a major shock last Saturday as Costa Rica stunned Uruguay with a 3-1 victory in Fortaleza, while few expected the Netherlands to defeat reigning champions, Spain on Friday – especially not 5-1.

Kwesi Appiah is aware Ghana will go into their opening game against USA on Monday not as favourites to claim three points.

Yet he insists there is no danger of the USA being underestimated when the action gets under way on Monday night.

“I am not especially worried because I care more about my team than the opponent but we do work, it’s always the same thing. My team is fully fit and ready to do battle against USA” Appiah said on Saturday.

“We do a video analysis of the last 10 games; yes the last 10, to know every starting 11. I won’t give you my sheets that I have got here, but I know about each player individually and in which system they played. So we are ready; we know everything about our players and our opponents, but what I am interested in is that our players know all about it”.

“Luckily for us, we don’t have any injuries in camp so that should tell you that we are all fit and ready for our first three points”.

*Ghana Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has claimed he is not chasing individual awards like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

Gyan compared himself to the Portuguese and Argentine stars and says he wants to win trophies with his team, Black Stars while the other two are looking out for personal glories of becoming the best players in the World.

“I am not a player who needs to win individual awards like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi,” he told

reporters today.

“I am more about winning things as a team. You can see how these two players operate. I think the only common thing amongst us is that we are all captains of our teams. For me, it’s more important to win trophies as a team not as an

individual. What benefit will I get if I win the golden boot and the Black Stars does not win the World Cup? Compare that to me helping Ghana to win the World Cup and I do not win any personal glory here. Which is best for us as a nation or for me as the Captain and leader of the team” Gyan added.
