Stars arrive in Kenya

The Black Stars arrived in Nairobi yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Harembee Stars.

Ghana’s squad has been training in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia since Tuesday and finalized their preparations yesterday with their final session ahead of departure.

Head coach Kwesi Appiah has the full complement of his squad for training after Harrison Afful joined on Thursday.

They are expected to train at the Kasarani Stadium-venue for the match today and put finishing touches to the preparation.

Ghana won their first qualifier 5-0 at home against Ethiopia and is favourite to make it two out of two.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Kwadwo Asamoah was set to captain the Black Stars against the Kenyans as Kwesi Appiah aims to develop a leadership culture within the team.

That will be the first opportunity for the Inter Milan man having ended his four-year hiatus.

Asamoah is the most senior player in the current squad in the absence of substantive pper Asamoah Gyan and his deputy Andre Ayew.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands that Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is in no hurry to make a permanent appointment after a lack of game time and form forced Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew out of the team.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been handed the role on an interim basis but the 25-year-old has downplayed his chances of replacing the iconic Asamoah Gyan.

Partey has also enjoyed the backing of former Chelsea legend Michael Essien.
