Ghana FA Executive Committee member, Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer has congratulated the national U-17 male team on qualifying to the 2017 African Youth Championship (AYC) which is slated for Madagascar.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the Black Starlets on qualifying for the African Championship. They have re-established themselves as a very strong brand. They have revived our hopes in the juveniles and we must commend them for that,” he told Accra based Asempa Fm yesterday.
“I know with the support from the management team, the players and everyone involved can work towards the qualification to the World Cup which is a very important tournament for the country,” he added.
The Starlets on Saturday booked their place to the AYC after holding their Cote d’Ivoire counterparts to a goalless encounter in Abidjan after beating them 3-1 in the first leg which was played at the Cape Coast stadium.
Coach Fabin’s men before making it to the tournament escaped a narrow scare from Burkina Faso in the previous tie.
The team nearly lost the tie to Burkina despite a 5-1 win in the first leg in Ghana as they lost 4-1 in the second leg.
This will be the first time the starlets are making it to the competition after CAF disqualified Ghana from competing in the 2015 edition after the country was found guilty of fielding an over aged player in their last qualifier against Cameroon.
