Stanchart Bank launches tourney

CEOSTANDARD Chartered Bank Ghana has launched its football tournament dubbed ‘Standard Chartered Trophy-Road’ to Anfield.

It will bring together staff of the Bank, corporate bodies, customers, client and the media to battle for honours in a 5-aside football tournament that provides a platform to actively engage football fans and also help them donate to charity in order to develop football.

In all 32 teams will converge at the Lizzy Sports Complex on February 28 for the Ghana edition of the tournament which will be reciprocated in The Gambia and Nigeria as well.

Winners of the Ghana edition will engage in a regional tournament with winners from The Gambia and Nigeria to be held in Ghana on March 14, with the ultimate winner representing the West Africa region at Anfield, where a total of 10 teams across the bank’s global footprints will compete for the ultimate trophy.

Speaking at the launch of the tournament, the Chief Executive of the Bank Mr. Kweku Bedu-Addo said “the competition hinged on the Bank’s Liverpool FC sponsorship and is an opportunity for Standard Chartered to reinforce its partnership with Liverpool FC and generate direct benefits to the business and its stakeholders.”

“This is a great opportunity for us in Ghana to send a team to Anfield to play in the finals and experience what it is like playing at the awe-inspiring home ground of Liverpool FC and win honours for our country”, he added.

This is the first time Ghana has won the rights to stage the Standard Chartered trophy event which is in its fourth year and according to the Bank’s CEO, his outfit is very excited to host such a fun-filled interactive sporting event for its stakeholders.

The deadline for registration is February 20 for customer teams and February 13 for clients or corporate teams who want to participate in the tournament.
