The Stanbic Bank has launched a new product in London to enable Ghanaians living outside to buy properties back home and make payments conveniently from their countries of residence.

Launching the Stanbic Diaspora Mortgage at Highgate Hill in north London, the High Commissioner, Mr Victor Smith, said that investments in housing were long term ventures which held bright prospects for job opportunities as well.

However, he said, for Ghanaians to enjoy the full impact of the housing industry’s positive efforts, they must also embrace family planning with utmost importance.

“Government continues to provide and expand schools, hospitals and other basic amenities but these facilities continue to be overstretched because we keep producing children at a much higher rate,” he added.

Mr Smith also urged estate developers to take a firm stance and venture into the regions and help to bridge the development gap between the rural and the urban centres.

Earlier, Mr Alhassan Andani, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank, assured Ghanaians in the Diaspora that investments in housing in Ghana were sterling ventures, “with the strongest and stable earnings for your retirement”.

Stanbic Mortgage Officer, Anna Owusu-Sekyere said that with the construction of new houses, the bank would take part in the construction and monitor the project around the clock to give the buyer the full benefit of his or her money.

The diaspora account, she explained, provided the opportunity for buyers to transfer payments home for free.
